Annabelle Meare

After studying with Yfrah Neamen in London and Lorand Fenyves in Toronto, Annabelle Meare has built a thriving career both as a chamber musician and as a concertmaster, and performs and records regularly with ensembles such as the Nash Ensemble, the Kungsbacka Piano Trio and the Schubertensemble. She is a frequent guest at chamber music festivals including Midsummer Music, Incontri in Terra di Siena and the festivals in Moritzburg, Bergen, Oslo, Trondheim and Hardanger. She currently holds the position of principal second violin in both the Philharmonia Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra, and has toured and recorded with both since 2004.

Annabelle is a member of the Vertavo String Quartet, which has toured Europe, Japan and the United States. During the past season, the quartet performed in Norvegia, Spagna, Israele, Svezia, Polonia, Italia, Stati Uniti, Australia e Regno Unito. The quartet’s discography is highly varied and includes Schumann, Brahms, Grieg, Debussy, Bartók, Nielsen and Asheim (all for SIMAX Classics). Their recordings of Debussy and Grieg have been awarded the Diapason d’Or. Their latest release for SIMAX features Beethoven’s Op. 130 and 133. Furthermore, the quartet is a passionate advocate of contemporary music and works with composers such as Saariaho, Gubaidulina and Paul Rouders. The Vertavo Quartet is also Artistic Director of the annual Vertavo Festival in Norway. Annabelle is also co-founder of the West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival, which takes place in September. She plays a violin by Francesco Goffriller.
